The Cameroon International Film Festival (CAMIFF) soon to become a public utility
The promoter of CAMIFF, Prince Agbor Ebot Gilbert, received in audience by the Minister of Arts and Culture
On April 9, 2026, MINAC accompanied by the senior officials of the Ministry of Arts and Culture received in audience the promoter of CAMIFF, at the artists lounge.
Two main points were on the agenda :
the preparations for the upcoming 10th edition of CAMIFF and
the file for it to become a public utility.
After the usual civilities, the Honorable Minister appreciated the film promoter for the work he is doing to promote the Cameroon cinematophy creative industry. His proactivity and collaboration with foreign film producers, bringing them to Cameroon does not only positively impact the film industry but the Cameroon culture as a whole. Many other aspects of the culture are being exposed during the festival.
In his intervention, the guest of the day laid out the preparations for the upcoming edition. Seminars, workshops, screenings, the inauguration of the wall of fame of which the cornerstone bears the name of the Minister. He presented the different categories of personalities to be on the wall: media personalities, music and entertainment, film and arts featuring national and international renowned film icons.
Agbor Ebot Gilbert before concluding his intervention, equally presented some challenges faced by Cameroon film producers and the industry as a whole: the challenges include financial constraints which affects the production of more films, producers are unable to recover the cost of production because local media don't also buy locally produced films. There is also the issue of copyright and related rights. On this, he concluded by requesting more support and accompaniment from the government.
Technical directors in their different interventions encouraged the promoter to be part of the structuring of artistic and cultural movement which is at its final stage at Minac.
In his recommendations ,
the Minister assured the promoter of the continuous support of the government in accompanying such initiatives. He instructed that a technical team be put in place immediately to accompany the promoter in planning the upcoming CAMIFF 10th edition.
The good news of CAMIFF becoming a public utility was announced.
